The Ultimate Summer Staple: The White Eyelet Dress

Summer is just around the corner! The official start kicks off on June 21 which means spending a lot of time outdoors and under the sun. For me this means outdoor BBQs, brunches on outdoor patios, picnics in the park, and weekend trips with the family. It’s always a busy and active time! It’s also that time of year when the summer dresses make their debut. The warmer, and much hotter climate brings out the shorter skirts to show off those legs that have been hiding all year. I live in dresses throughout the summer. For one, dresses are easy to wear. Just slip it over your head or step in and zip it up and it’s on! Also, their flowy nature makes them comfortable to wear all day while moving from event to event. They’re really easy to dress up and down too. Just change up your shoes or throw on a jacket to change the look. I will also add that they’re flattering on all shapes and sizes. So if you haven’t already, get yourself a summer dress or two, or three, or more, like me!

One color I get really excited to wear this time of year is white. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll wear white anytime of year (even after Labor Day). If you’re like me and wondering where the saying, “you can’t wear white after Labor Day” came from I can briefly tell you this after googling it. White was worn while people vacationed (think of white linen dresses on a beach in Panama) and Labor Day signifies the end of summer when people had to go back to work. So after Labor Day, folks packed up their white dresses, shirts, and pants and returned to their normal lives. Fast forward to the present and it is no longer a fashion faux pas. Anyways, I digress from why I love wearing white during this time of year! White is bright and crisp and pulls off a relaxed, effortless vibe, just how summer should be. The brightness matches the tone of summer. The sun shines so bright during this time!

My go-to dress of summer is the white eyelet mini. The eyelet details are very subtle from afar but up close you can really appreciate how intricate the details are. I am especially fond of this dress because it has so many subtle details that make it special. The neckline is cut into a mini v-neck to make room for any necklace or pendant you would want to accessorize with. It stays true to the simple, effortless vibe of allowing just enough for a small necklace. Attached to the neck line are two ropes and at the end are tassels. I think the tassels are extremely cute and so bohemian. Let that free spirit show! Wear them just hanging down or tie them together for some versatility. Now let me highlight the ruffle details that square off the bodice. It’s so cute how they almost look like you’re wearing an apron. I can’t think of how that would be significant but ruffles are just plain cute when they’re done right! Then lastly, it’s always a score when you can find something that is appropriate for multiple occasions. Wearing a mini dress shows off a lot of leg so to balance it out I like that there are 3/4 sleeves. It’s summer so full sleeves are just too much coverage. You can also do what I did and roll the sleeves 1/2 length. Now, you’re ready to go from brunch to BBQ to sunset stroll.

White is easy to balance with pops of color. I chose to add pops of pink because it is such a feminine color and because it’s peony season and pink peonies are such a pretty sight! I’ve had this Gucci bucket bag since high school. It’s one of my favorite because I feel like it’s so me. I love the pink trim and handles. They’re subtle differences that make this bag stand out. For more pops of pink I threw on these pink and orange striped espadrille block heels. It’s also important to protect yourself from the UV rays so I like to keep protected with a hat. This boater hat is also super cute and stylish. Bring on more bohemian vibes! It’s made up of wheat straw and is a gorgeous brown color that sort of sparkles in the sunlight. The leather band is also a great subtle touch. Summer, we’re ready for you!
